Pool Leak Detection & Repair in Orange County
A slow, hidden pool leak can waste water, throw off chemistry, and strain equipment. South County Pools pinpoints and fixes leaks quickly — from the shell to the equipment pad — so your pool runs efficiently and stays swim-ready.
Common Signs You May Have a Leak
- Unexplained water loss (more than normal evaporation)
- Air in the system: bubbles at returns or a pump that loses prime
- Constant autofill or rising water bill
- Wet spots, soggy soil, or deck movement near the pool
- New chemical drift: hard to keep chlorine/pH stable
- Cracks in plaster/tile or at the skimmer throat and around fittings
Quick DIY Check (Evaporation vs. Leak)
- Fill the pool to normal level. Place a bucket on a step, filled with pool water to the same line; mark both waterlines.
- Run the system as usual for 24 hours, then compare drops. If the pool level falls more than the bucket, you likely have a leak.
- Repeat once with the pump off. Faster loss with pump on suggests plumbing/pressure-side; faster with pump off suggests suction-side or shell.
How We Find Leaks (Fast & Non-Destructive First)
- Pressure testing of plumbing runs (suction, return, spa) to isolate the circuit
- Electronic listening & hydrophone to pinpoint underground or wall leaks
- Dye testing around lights, returns, steps, and the skimmer throat
- Visual/structural checks: tile line, expansion joints, cracks, equipment pad
- Confirmation before any repair — no “guess and hope” fixes
Repairs We Perform
- Shell & surface: crack repairs, skimmer throat rebuilds, light niche/conduit sealing, targeted plaster patches
- Underground plumbing: sectional repairs or smart reroutes when lines are compromised
- Fittings & joints: returns, drains, jets, and expansion joint reseal
- Equipment pad: pump/mechanical seal leaks, valves, unions, filters, and heater by-pass points
